History
The Squadron was formed at Darwin 1940 with flying Ansons which were soon replaced by Hudsons. 6 December 1941 they moved to Laha on the island of Ambon. 31 January 1942 they evacuated to Darwin. 8 February A and C flights were moved to Daly Waters while B flight remained in Darwin. May 1942 they relocated to Hughes airstrip. They were moved to Canberra May 1943. They were re-armed with Beauforts and Venturas eventually relinquishing the Beauforts to 2 and 32 Squadrons. The Venturas were relocated to Gove from August 1944 to June 1945 when they relocated to Morotai. Gough Whitlam who later became Prime Minister served in this Unit.,
